Creating a Website to Flip from Scratch
If you're thinking about creating a website from scratch with the final result of flipping it (i.e. selling it) on at a profit, you need to consider what you're doing very carefully. For starters, the question that you need to ask yourself is whether or not you really and truly know exactly what you're getting yourself into - and whether or not you'll be able to create a website to flip by yourself.
Depending on your level of experience, the methods that you use will undoubtedly differ. Beginners nowadays actually have a much easier time creating websites as they can use CMS and blog platforms coupled with themes (and even premium themes) to create great looking websites that are as good as anything that you could hire a professional to create. That being said, even this requires at least a little know how and experience - but you can probably gather that along the way.
Alternatively, if you're a very experienced web designer, you could definitely create your own website from scratch with no issues whatsoever.
Frankly speaking however, the main issue with creating a website from scratch is that you constantly need to remember that it is there to be flipped - and thus it must come off as being 'valuable' in no uncertain terms. While 'value' is often regarded as being quite relative, when it comes to flipping websites it has fairly specific connotations and that includes: Traffic and profit. These are the two keys that you need to consider when you're creating a website, and you must ensure that the website you create takes care of both of these.
Bear in mind that just because you might spend $20 or less on the website itself, that doesn't mean that if you sell it for $40, then you've successfully flipped a website. All things said and done, you need to factor in the time that you've spent on the website itself and figure out whether or not it is worth it. If you've spent 5 minutes and managed to flip it for $40 - great. But if you've spent a week and you only make a $20 profit then that's quite bad... needless to say!
As you should be starting to see, creating a website to flip from scratch has quite a number of considerations that need to be taken care of. While it certainly is profitable, the question is - are you really going to be able to do what it takes to ensure that you cover all your bases? If you think so - great, but if not there are other ways to flip websites that you can pursue and you might find that it is best to do so.
Also, don't forget that you needn't do all the work yourself. If you have the budget for it, then outsourcing website creation could be a great way to create a website from scratch without actually creating a website yourself!
